Introducing React Native OSS Board
In short
Callstack is actively engaged in Open Source React Native development, contributing various libraries to the community. To facilitate new contributors, we've introduced the "React Native Source Board" on GitHub. This board lists beginner-friendly issues from React Native and React Native Community repositories, making it easier for newcomers to get involved.
Open Source at Callstack
At Callstack we’ve been working with open source React Native repositories for a while. We’ve shipped several libraries such as Linaria, Paper, Haul or React Native Testing Library. Besides that, we are constantly helping other maintainers in the community to improve their libraries. There’s a lot of work out there and we are trying to encourage everyone to join our efforts.
Perhaps you remember your first contribution or even a moment before that. Have you found yourself shy to ask questions and propose ideas? Did you scour through the tons of issues to find ones, that could let you understand what’s going on in the project a bit better and potentially join the further discussion?
We understand that it might be hard to get started in the Open Source and it really should be inclusive. We believe that we need to work together towards the common goal, everyone should be invited to join the community and contribute.
At Callstack, we’ve been always committed to giving back to the React Native community.
To overcome some problems related to Open Source work and decrease the entry level of contributing for beginners, we’ve created a board with “ready to pick up” issues from <rte-code>react-native<rte-code> and <rte-code>react-native-community<rte-code> repositories.
React Native Source Board
Today we are proud to open such a list on GitHub.
Here’s what it looks like:
We’ve been choosing, labeling and categorizing the issues (so you can open the board and get coding). Every issue that lands on this list should be triaged and classified by the type of an issue and skillset required to pick it up. For example, you can filter issues by <rte-code>Feature<rte-code> in order to work on new functionalities or <rte-code>Bug<rte-code>, if you feel like fixing some long-standing bugs (hint: these are the most rewarding ones).
If you like the idea and want to be part of this initiative, just go ahead and jump to this repository.
If you need help getting started with your contribution or want to chat about Open Source in general, please contact us and we’ll get back to you.
